{trick or cheese}

Monday, October 31, 2011

Britton has been running around saying "trick or cheese" for a bit over a week now & its got us all mixed up. there was more then a few times when I prompted the kids to say "trick or cheese." Presley was a party pooper & asked to go to bed just after dinner. by 6pm she was out cold. Rod passed out candy & our 3 dudes hit the pavement collecting pounds & pounds of candy. We even skipped houses we had so much. highlight of the night: Britton just made himself at home in a neighbors house--just waltzed right in to look for a potty. I flipped. we had to take a timeout to explain trick or treat etiquette. Favorite candy this year: T-Crunch bars, Brittster-tootsie rolls, Madds-starbursts, Presley-gummy anything.

{Pumpkins}

Sunday, October 30, 2011

With Halloween just nights away we planned to carve our pumpkins & eat home made pumpkin donuts with friends. The big boys helped in the kitchen with the donuts, & once I gave the sclater kids the OK to eat a donut...they each ate 4. needless to say there are zero left over donuts! & The pumpkins are guarding the door this very moment!

Here is the Recipe we used:

For the donuts:
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 cup sugar2 tablespoons butter
2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup pumpkin puree

For the buttermilk glaze:
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Canola oil for frying

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, spice and sugar. Whisk together all of the remaining ingredients (except for the canola oil) in a second, medium bowl. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, and stir them around the bowl until the mixture is well combined. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, rolling the donut dough to approximately1/4-1/2″ thick. (I know this will seem quite thin, but the donuts puff up immensley while frying). Cut with a donut cutter.

Meanwhile, whisk the glaze ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth.

Heat 2 inches of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, gently slide the donuts into the oil, frying on the first side until the edges of the donut are lightly browned, flip carefully and allow to cook on the other side until lightly browned. Remove and dunk immediately into buttermilk glaze.

Allow to air dry on a cooling rack before serving. & eat them all up! (Orig. recipe found HERE)

{phone}

Saturday, October 29, 2011

The kids use my phone more then I do. Maddox often takes it to nap with him too. He watches Dora on it. They take pictures of each other & I find them. I like to use the camera function too. Sometimes the big daddy camera is too much to lug about. Heres what I found on the phone from the past month or so.
