{Far away in magical Land}

Thursday, January 01, 2015

Last night the fireworks from the yards all around us woke you. You were shaking, heart racing & you called out my name. Mommy.  I came to you & stroked your hair to the side of your forehead. You laid back down. You knew what would come next. I would warm you some milk & cover you with your orange striped blanket from Omah. Then you would ask me to sing "wheels on the bus" followed by "baby bus song." Your Opah used to sing a song to me called "far away in a magical land" We loved the song, your uncle & I.  We would request different animals or mythical creatures as he sang. You choose vehicles with the occasional raccoon or monkey.  So you call it "baby bus song" It goes like this...

Faraway in a magical land all the little baby fire trucks
Are snuggled down in their beds
They're laying down their sleepy little heads
For they helped a lot of people today
Now they hear their mothers say
"Goodnight, sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

And, faraway in a magical land all the little baby race cars
Are snuggled down in their beds
They're laying down their sleepy little heads
For they drove very fast today
Now they hear their mommies say
"Goodnight, sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

Faraway in a magical land all the little baby buses
Are snuggled down in their beds
They're laying down their sleepy little heads
For they drove a whole lot today
Now they hear their mommies say
"Goodnight, sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

And now the mommies of the baby fire trucks
And the mommies of the baby race cars
And the mommies of the baby buses
Are telling their babies:

That faraway in a magical land little Cooper
is snuggled down in his bed
He’s laying down his sleepy little head
For he played very hard today
Now he hears his mommy say
"Goodnight, sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

I pulled my hand away from your hair while I ended the song & you pulled your hand away from the little monkey you like to hold at bedtime & grabbed my fingers. You opened up my hand and laid it down on your chest. You put your small palm on the back of my hand & held me there. You looked up with your drowsy almost closed eyes and said "Stay mommy?"
I stayed. I soaked in the baby you that is quickly fleeting.
